Mapping Magnetic Fields

* Note: This is an abbreviated project idea, without notes to start your background research or a procedure for how to do the experiment. You can identify abbreviated project ideas by the asterisk at the end of the title. If you want a project idea with full instructions, please pick one without an asterisk.
AbstractYou probably know that you can use iron filings to reveal the magnetic field produced by a strong magnet. If you sandwich the iron filings between pieces of waxed paper, you can make a permanent record of your magnetic experiments (Gardner, 2004, 66). Cover the wax paper sandwich with a layer of brown paper (from a roll, or cut open a paper shopping bag), and then (with an adult's help) use a hot, dry iron to seal the waxed paper together. You will have to experiment a little with your iron to figure out the best settings and length of time to heat the waxed paper, but with a little practice it will work well. Of course, you'll want to set this up on a surface that's safe to iron on. Iron filings can be bought or made by crumbling up fine steel wool. Here are some ideas for experiments that could use this technique; use your imagination to come up with other ideas. Examine the fields produced by the interaction of two or more magnets. Investigate the strength of magnetic fields at different distances. Build a series of electromagnets with different coil lengths and/or different core materials and investigate the magnetic fields produced by each.

Dell's 10-Inch Streak Is Business Up Front, Party Out Back

Friday - July 29, 2011Dell on Friday launched the Dell Streak 10 Pro tablet in China. This is the company's first 10-inch tablet. It runs Android Honeycomb 3.1. The device has work and personal modes, with a firewall of sorts between them so there's no leakage of information between the two. [More...]

water in moon

Indian satellite chandrayana-1 found water on the surface of the moon using NASA small satellite moon mineralogy mapper . Madavan nayer said more secretes found about moon and our scantest s are analyzing results. NASA said that water is in very less quantity doing research on that.

ISRO launched 7 satellites in 20 minutes

India successfully launched its 16th remote-sensing satellite Oceansat-2 and six nano European The Ocean Monitoring Satellite Oceansat-2 is seen 18 minutes Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV- C-14) from Sriharikota
The 44.4-metre tall, 230-tonne Indian rocket Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) freed itself from the launch pad at the spaceport and lifted itself up, lugging the 960-kg Oceansat-2 and the six nano satellites all together weighing 20 kg.

six nano satellites, four are from Germany, one is from Switzerland and one from Turkey. The seventh is a big one, India's Oceansat-2 weighing 960 kg.

President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh congratulated the ISRO team for successful launch of Oceansat-2 satellite, saying this would herald a new beginning in understanding of the oceans.
This will be PSLV's 16th mission. From September 1993 to April 2009, PSLV has been launched 15 times. Fourteen launches have been successful continuously while only one has failed so far.

ECE projects

These projects were produced in the last month of ECE 4760 each spring. The students were given the responsibility of choosing their project, then designing and building it. The microcontroller used is the Atmel ATmega series. The students must stay within a very limited monetary budget. See the assignment for further description. The project numbers are for identification and do not represent ranking. Send comments or questions to Bruce Land, Electrical and Computer Engineering.Spring 2008
